Malachi 4

Scripture Reading:  Read Malachi Chapter 4.

Hope in the Darkness:

Malachi 4:4 – “Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.” (NIV)

Years ago, I read a story in the local newspaper about two policemen who had happened to come upon an unresponsive individual.  They immediately called for an ambulance, but in the meantime, they were able to perform CPR on the individual, who later made it to the hospital and survived.  Both policemen were praised for their quick response to begin CPR, and the doctors credited them with saving the life of the person they helped.

This is the very last chapter of the Old Testament.  The voice of God will be silent for the next 400 years until God becomes man in the person of Jesus Christ.  Some may look at this time period as the dark ages of the scripture, when God stopped speaking, but the Lord, in His abundant grace, left His people with life-saving instructions.

Just like those policemen had training to rely upon, the Lord had provided through the Prophets, His word, as a guiding light in the darkness.  The Lord has also given us the instruction we need to follow Him.  Though it may feel at times that we are on our own, we can turn to the word of God for hope, healing, and direction in our life.

Prayer:  Lord, help me to remember your word amid a dark and confused world.  Direct my steps and fill me with your hope, discernment, and direction.  Amen.
