Zechariah 3
Scripture Reading: Read Zechariah Chapter 3.
The Coming Accusation:
Zechariah 3:1-2 – “Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?” (NIV)
Think back to a time in your life when you were accused of something. Maybe you think back to grade school or even a time with your siblings when you did something against your brother or sister. Regardless of the example that comes to mind, when you know you’re guilty, you long for mercy, whether you deserve it or not.
Zechariah has seen an accusation in which Satan brings charges against Joshua, the Priest at the time, and the Lord rejects those charges. This sheds some light on who our enemy, Satan, really is. He is the accuser. The truth is that Satan will be accusing us as well, and more than likely, that accusation will be valid.
Though this accusation against us will be true, an incredible promise exists for those who believe in the Lord Jesus. We find in Hebrews 8:6 a description of our mediator: “But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.” (NIV)
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for this promise of your grace and mercy and for taking the penalty I deserve for my sin. Root out any sin in my life; help me to walk in obedience. And help me, Lord, to rest in your promise of forgiveness.
