Zechariah 1
Scripture Reading: Read Zechariah Chapter 1.
Boundless Resources from the “LORD of Hosts”:
Zechariah 1:3 – “Therefore say to them, Thus declares the LORD of hosts: Return to me, says the LORD of hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts.” (ESV)
I’ve always found it a little frustrating when I go to a store that claims to have everything I need, but then I discover they’re out of some item I came to the store specifically looking for. At that point, I’ve got to change my plans, go to a different store, or do without whatever item I was on the hunt for. The amazing thing about our God is that He has boundless resources; He will always have the resources we need.
There is an important phrase here that we will see several times throughout Zechariah: “The Lord of Hosts.” It’s one of those eloquent descriptions of God that I’ve never really thought about what it means. This description of God “implies the boundless resources at His command for His people’s good.” (Andrew Robert Fausset)
The New Testament tells us that our God is full of mercy and power. This is an incredible reminder that our God has all the resources we need. Perhaps the greatest truth for us to know today is that His power and resources are for the good of His people. We serve an amazingly good God; He is filled with boundless power and grace.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you are not limited. Thank you that I do not have to seek out other sources for help. Everything I need is in you. Help me grow today in my dependence on you.
