Nahum 3

Scripture Reading:  Read Nahum Chapter 3.

The Enchanting Mistress:

Nahum 3:4 – “All this because Nineveh, the beautiful and faithless city, mistress of deadly charms, enticed the nations with her beauty.  She taught them all her magic, enchanting people everywhere.”  (NLT)

All too often, I hear the story of the husband or wife who left their spouse for another lover.  It’s a heartbreaking story that begins with “innocent” flirting but ends in the destruction of a family.  It can happen to any family because the devil is an expert at temptation.

Nahum’s description of Nineveh’s demise is awful and unique.  There is nothing quite like it.  This city had completely given itself over to wickedness; they had rejected God to the point where their destruction had become irreversible.

I believe the lesson for us today is to watch out for the enchanting mistress.  Of course, I am referring to temptation, which leads to sin when we give in to it.  Temptation comes our way in beauty; if you don’t think so, you’re fooling yourself.  Temptation comes in all shapes, sizes, and avenues.  All of us are capable of being lured in by the enticing draw of temptation.

Prayer:  Strengthen me today, Lord, by the power of your Spirit.  Reveal to me anything in my surroundings that has the potential to pull me away from you and your will for my life.
