Micah 7
Scripture Reading: Read Micah Chapter 7.
Simon Says:
Micah 7:18-19 – “Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.” (NIV)
Simon Says is a simple copycat game most of us have probably played at some point in our lives. It’s fun and silly, but the concept is very simple: copy the actions of Simon, the leader of the game, at the right times. If God were to play Simon Says with us, it would be completely unfair because none of us would be able to copy His behavior.
“Where is another God like you?” This is a rhetorical question because Micah already knows the answer. There is not any other god like our God. Our God shows unfailing love, pardons the guilty, and has sent His only son to save people from their sins.
You and I cannot copy His behavior; we cannot do good or be good in response to His goodness. Take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief today; you couldn’t do enough good things to get to heaven if you tried. But remember, we will not be in heaven one day because we copied God’s behavior; we will be there because He saved us through the work of Christ. This is our hope, our encouragement, and our reason to rejoice.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for saving me. Help me to rest today in the work that you’ve done in me rather than attempting to be good enough in response to your goodness. Let this knowledge bring me peace and contentment, knowing that I am saved by your grace.
