Micah 3
Scripture Reading: Read Micah Chapter 3.
The Foundation is Everything:
Micah 3:10-11 - “You are building Jerusalem on a foundation of murder and corruption. You rulers make decisions based on bribes; you priests teach God's laws only for a price; you prophets won't prophesy unless you are paid. Yet all of you claim to depend on the LORD. "No harm can come to us," you say, "for the LORD is here among us." (NLT)
One of my favorite things to do is walk through our neighborhood and watch the progress of the new homes being built. I’m always amazed by how quickly the house seems to go up once the foundation is built. However, the foundation construction is slower and certainly less exciting.
There’s a reason the foundation takes longer to complete; it takes time and expertise to get it done right. The message from the Lord through the prophet Micah in this chapter is leveled directly against the leadership of Israel. Their foundation is evil. They are completely consumed with themselves; they care nothing for the needs of the people, and they don’t seem interested in God’s way either.
The challenge for us is to check our foundation. Practically speaking, our spiritual foundation is fleshed out in our everyday lives. Of course, our spiritual foundation begins by trusting in Jesus for salvation. Every day, we build a spiritual foundation by the things we choose to spend our time on.
One thing I know about foundations is that they determine the type and quality of a building. If you want to have a great home that lasts for years to come, you must have a good foundation. Spiritually, if you want to have a vibrant spiritual legacy, your foundation must be firmly and daily rooted in Christ rather than selfish desires.
